Op de rechter hoek van de straat woonde Heer Schellebach. Dat was de grote man van de volkshuisvesting. Aan de zelfde kant, zowat in het midden, woonde de oprichter van de wandelclub Marijke, De hr. de Hollander. Zijn buurman was de kunstschilder Albert Rene ( Albert Jansen) Dan woonden er nog langs Verhagen een gitarist.

In 1928 woonden mijn ouders in de v. Speykstraat 13 en daar is hun 2e zoon geboren. Het huis moest helemaal ontsmet worden voor zij erin konden gaan wonen.
In 1929 zijn zij in Stratum gaan wonen.

De bloemenbuurt in Stratum werd door mijn ouders vroeger wel de Schellenbach genoemd. Nu weet ik dus waarom, waarschijnlijk heeft de heer Schellebach daar ook bemoeienis mee gehad.
